Twigs came into our lives, very organically several years ago. Since then, she caused much mischief and mayhem in Charlotte's classroom: moving chairs out into the library; mixing up children's drawers; pinching pencils; and rearranging teachers' displays. The children fell in love with her, as she brought us many giggles!
Over time, Twigs began to share her caring side by gifting little, broken sticks to children who were in need of a little extra comfort. She would leave the stick upon their chair for them to discover and treasure.
Hearing about her latest adventures became an eagerly anticipated part of our school day, and so the inspiration to write the Broken Twigs series was born.
As teachers, we have always seen the possibilities associated with picture books. The illustrations add a whole new layer of conceptual information that all children can access, which can only help to deepen their reading skills and their reading for pleasure.
As a result of this insight, these picture books for older children, published through Toadstool Tales by Charlotte L. Taylor, offer KS2 children the opportunity to dive into an age-related visual story.
To ensure a whole-school provision, Charlotte wrote and published a picture book for EYFS and KS1 children whilst exploring her love of rhyme and meter.
